About Course

Lean Six Sigma Foundations: Lean Six Sigma is a process for increasing performance and methodically eliminating waste that blends the ideas of lean manufacturing and enterprise with Six Sigma. Steven Brown, a professor and expert in supply chains, outlines the fundamentals of adopting Lean Six Sigma as a framework for your development initiatives.

Steven discusses the Lean toolset, which includes the 5s principles, kanban (scheduling), downtime, poka-yoke (error proofing), and kaizen, in addition to the Six Sigma process stages (define, measure, analyse, improve, and control) (continuous improvement). He also demonstrates how Lean Six Sigma applies to the service industry and supply chain management, as well as the fundamentals of project execution. For more resources, be sure to view the “Next steps” video at the end of the course.

Learning Objective:

The objective of the Lean Six Sigma Foundations course is to provide learners with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles, methodologies, and tools of Lean Six Sigma, a powerful approach for process improvement and waste reduction in organizations. By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  1. Understand the core concepts of Lean Six Sigma: Learn the principles and philosophy of Lean Six Sigma, including the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) methodology and the key concepts of waste reduction, process variation, and customer focus.
  2. Apply Lean Six Sigma tools: Gain proficiency in using key Lean Six Sigma tools such as process mapping, value stream mapping, root cause analysis, statistical process control, and process capability analysis to identify and solve problems, reduce defects, and improve process performance.
  3. Analyze data: Learn how to collect, analyze, and interpret data using Lean Six Sigma techniques to make data-driven decisions and identify improvement opportunities.
  4. Implement Lean Six Sigma projects: Understand the process for selecting, scoping, and executing Lean Six Sigma projects, and learn how to manage change and engage stakeholders throughout the improvement journey.
  5. Demonstrate Lean Six Sigma mindset: Develop a Lean Six Sigma mindset of continuous improvement, waste reduction, and customer-centricity, and apply Lean Six Sigma principles and tools to real-world scenarios in various industries and settings.

Overall, the Lean Six Sigma Foundations course aims to equip learners with the knowledge, skills, and mindset to contribute to the improvement of processes, quality, and customer satisfaction in organizations, and to prepare them for further advancement in their Lean Six Sigma journey.
